Happy Monday! I am linking up with Katie for my weekend recap!
I hope everyone had a wonderful Mother's Day weekend. I can honestly say this might have been my favorite yet! Russell had to go out of town the first half of the weekend so I packed Ryan and myself up and we headed to GiGi's house in VA. I haven't spent Mother's Day with my mom since I don't know when, so it was special that we could share part of the weekend together.
GiGi and I took Ryan on his FIRST trip to Busch Gardens in Williamsburg, VA, so we could introduce him to roller coasters. It's safe to say that he was hooked and I haven't laughed that much in forever.
When we drove back to NC on Sunday, all Ryan wanted to do was tell Dada all about every ride he rode and that he got to meet Grover and Elmo from Sesame Street.

Weekend Recap | Mother's Day and the thrill seeker

So, it's safe to say I broke my resolution to blog more consistently already. I never expected 2016 to start off with a huge explosion of life drama. If you remember anything about my last post, within a month, my grandfather was diagnosed with progressive cancer, my mother-in-law's Lyme's Disease illness got much worse and she isn't doing well and my dad had a heart attack. Right after I wrote that post, I then got a call that my dad's sister had a stroke.
I think my drama filled life would out perform any NBC, ABC, or CBS drama on TV right now.
On top of that, my new job (since moving to Wilmington, NC, in October) has been excellent but very, very busy. Balancing that fast-paced career and continuing my love for blogging has been a challenge this year.
A lot on my plate is an understatement.
But, the blog is not going away... I am just continually learning to balance my time...always a work in progress.
Now, let's focus on the positives though... because there have been plenty. And, I am sure you want to catch up, right?
Here have been some snapshots of the happy moments recently and I am going to try to caption them in three words or less, since I am sure you are over reading all of my text :)

Happy Monday! I am linking up with Katie for my weekend recap!
I never intentionally meant to be away this long. But, life was getting the best of me. Our family had been going through months up great highs and then it all stopped at a screeching halt and we got pummeled with bad news.
- Towards the end of February, my Papa (grandpa) was diagnosed with cancer and the prognosis was not good.
- My mother-in-law's Lyme's disease symptoms were very bad and she had to live with us temporarily.
- On this past Friday morning, I got a call that my dad was rushed to the hospital and was having a heart attack.

Happy Monday! I am linking up with Katie for my weekend recap!
We traveled up to Virginia for the weekend and spent time with our families. It was packed and exhausting but it was oh so good to see our families.
Several weeks ago, my grandfather was diagnosed with his second bout of lung cancer. We found out recently, that the diagnosis is not good and that it has spread to multiple other parts of his body. With that being said, his birthday was last week and the family got together to celebrate his birthday and surround him with love.
Friday night we spent the night at my dad's house and Ryan got to celebrate Easter a little early. And that meant, lots of chocolate consumed from his Easter eggs and running wild in my dad's house with Ryan's new monster trucks he got.
You can always count on the good ole grandparent for feeding your kid mounds of sugar and then handing them back to you!
Sunday, we spent the morning with Russell's mom and then drove home. GaGa and my husband both have chronic Lyme's disease and she isn't doing well so she came with us back to NC, to stay for a little while and get healthy.
My husband flies to St. Louis to see a Lyme's specialist so he is trying to get her in there asap and go with her to get her some help. If you don't know much about Lyme, it is a horrible disease. My husband has fought it for over five years and early on, we didn't even know if he would make it. With lots of research and finding the right doctor, he has learned to manage it and that is what we hope for her.
When we got home, it was beautiful outside so Ryan did get to play before dinner...
... and then we promptly put that little nugget to bed to get him back on schedule.
Hope you had a great weekend!
XOXO,
Sherri

Saturday was the day for my Papa's big birthday party. My mom has three younger brothers, so my uncles, their wives and kids all came to surround my grandfather with tons of love and food. I am the oldest of 15 grandchildren and aside from my sister who is just three years younger than me, there is at least an 11 year age gap between me and most of my cousins. Ryan absolutely ADORED them and played all night long.Playing with Play-Doh with my sister (Aunt Court) and GiGi |

Happy Monday! I am linking up with Katie for my weekend recap!
The weekend came and went way too fast, just like any other weekend. The only difference is that we were having monsoon rains all day yesterday with extreme cold (extreme for NC), so there was a little cabin fever.
And let me tell you, cabin fever is very hard when you have a toddler that needs to run around. So, what did we do? We distracted him with Operation "Toddler Bed."

Happy Monday! I am linking up with Katie for my weekend recap!
Thank you for the kind comments on Thursday's post. Ryan's ear surgery went very well! He ended up having a double ear infection, again, at the time of surgery so I am very thankful we got Ryan in when we did. They cleaned his ears out and he pretty much slept the rest of the day.
By the time he woke up, he was famished so we went to our favorite local fresh Mexican spot, Islands. They have no refrigerators, and everything is bought locally that morning and made fresh daily. The best food ever! Ryan was down for some grub and some Dada bonding time.
Saturday was "Operation Disinfect" at the Schwartz house. With Ryan's surgery and earlier in the week our Hand, Foot, Mouth issues, it was an urgent matter to attend to. Every surface was germ free and even Ryan was up for helping.

Happy Monday! I am linking up with Katie for my weekend recap!
I have absolutely zero pictures from this weekend...zero. Want to know why? Because, Ryan AND I have the good ole Hand, Foot, Mouth Disease. Yes, you read right. I have it too!
Thanks to the perks of daycare, Ryan started having cold like symptoms early in the weekend and then some red bumps on his rear. By Sunday, I had rash ALL OVER MY ENTIRE BODY. I freaked, thought it was an allergic reaction to something and immediately ran to Urgent Care where they took one glance at me and said "Hand, Foot, Mouth."
I laughed, said "How in the world did I get that," and the doc quickly confirmed..."Your son." Ryan wasn't showing extreme signs and his rear looked like an early diaper rashy stage. Nope, he too had HFM. By the end of the day yesterday, his face started breaking out into rash too.
Great, just great. What is funny is the fact that I, the adult, have an extreme case and my toddler doesn't. No fever, no blisters, etc. (I say that and then I will jinx myself.)
See why I didn't take any pictures??

Somebody please tell me why my toddler thinks it is okay to call me "Mama Sherri" now? And, don't you dare correct him or he will start screaming it with pride.
Last night, he paraded around our house yelling "Mama Sherri" just beaming, knowing darn good and well what he was doing, and not caring at all about it. Oh, the adventures of theterrific twos/terrible twos/tenacious twos.
In other news, we did have a great weekend over here, even if it was a bit chilly. My mother and sister came into town for a girls weekend, although Ryan did join us in a lot of our adventures.

Is it sad that I already broke one of my New Year's resolutions? I think so.
The whole " I am going to do a more consistent job at blogging" thing I spoke about on my last post definitely didn't happen last week. Obviously. I could pretend that it was because I was busy coming up with great ideas for posts or that I did something extremely fun. But, I would be lying.
In reality, I was busy working. Since I work a full-time job during business hours, it is very hard to come home after a day of work to cook, clean, take care of Ryan, workout, and then blog. Sometimes I do great, while others are a complete dud. Last week was a dud week. Shoot, yesterday was a dud day. Last week and yesterday were filled with meetings after meetings after meetings, so I came home drained and needed to unplug.
What did I do while I was unplugged? Not too much, although we did take Ryan to his very first birthday party he was invited to and drove down to Myrtle Beach for some outlet shopping fun.

Santa and the grandparents came to our house over Christmas, and when your child is the only one and is the only grandchild, they get spoiled. And when I say spoiled, I mean there is no way I am going to find room in my house for everything he got.
However, I will take the clutter any day of the week because it was so much fun watching Ryan's pure joy and excitement opening up his gifts. And let us not forget, he just had a birthday two days before Christmas... Just add those gifts to your mental picture.
To top it off, Ryan was just as excited about collecting all of the bows from the presents and attaching them to my head. (Isn't he so thoughtful!)
When Ryan woke up Christmas morning, he let us know he was ready to do business when he came downstairs looking like this:
Hat backwards and all, he was ready to tear the house up. (He insisted he wear his hat and insisted he wear it backwards.)
And, as you can tell from the above picture, Santa left him his very own Dyson vacuum that is battery operated and actually sucks up dirt a little bit! Ryan was absolutely ecstatic since he squeals with joy when it is time for mama to vacuum. This time, he gets to help. (I might have been as equally excited as he was. He has literally vacuumed my house every single day since he got this. (And he even insists he store his vacuum right beside mama's.)
His GiGi (my mom) even got him his very own art table and chair with some "special markers" that only work on certain coloring paper! Thank you GiGi for ensuring Ryan does not mark up our walls. I will forever be indebted to you.
Ryan also got his very own Mickey Mouse Clubhouse and Mickey figurines and a Wilson carrying case for all of his Chuggington trains for his train table.
I also need to warn you that Ryan has gotten his license and you must steer clear of the road.
That's right! He is full-on driving in his new truck. Ryan shouted, "Big truck" when he saw this beauty outside waiting for him. He drove for hours, but when I tried to hitch a ride, he was not amused and quickly let me know he was not driving his mama around the block.
Christmas at the Schwartz house could not have gone any better. With Russell's parents there, my mom, and my sister, it was so full of laughter.
What was my favorite part of the day? #Twinning with my son that night :)
XOXO,
Sherri

Happy Monday! I am linking up with Katie for my weekend recap!
I hope you had a great Christmas, I know we sure did. On top of Christmas, our little boy turned TWO And, because we took a bazillion pictures of both events, I am going to separate my weekend recap post into two posts. Today's will be on Ryan's birthday, and tomorrow's will be on Christmas.
We started his birthday with his huge birthday surprise. He got a train table! He shouted "OOOOh!" when he saw it and played all day with it.
We had an "Oh-Two-dools"event for Ryan's birthday, and if you follow Mickey Mouse Clubhouse like we do, then you know exactly what I mean. Ryan is absolutely fascinated by Mickey. If he is watching he will not hear a word you are saying even if you are squatting down at his level, right in front of him.
So, it was only fitting to have a Mickey themed event. Because we just moved to Wilmington, NC, we haven't made any friends yet and Ryan hasn't made too many either. For that reason, we kept his birthday very small and it only included our immediate family and friends who were staying with us for Christmas. Ryan didn't mind, he had loads of fun. (And momma didn't mind because it was cheaper!)
We took Ryan to Chuck E. Cheese's, not knowing if he was quite big enough but it did not disappoint. Ryan had an absolute blast. Heck, and even the adults did. My husband was challenging everyone in the building to a basketball shoot-off in one of the basketball games they had.

We all got pizza, drinks, cake, and plenty of tokens. It ended up being a competition on who could win the most token tickets.
When it was time to open presents, Ryan loved his potty! While he isn't fully ready to dive in hard on the potty training, he is telling us when he goes and what he does, so we are easing in to it.
It was such an awesome day. Spending it with my two-year-old laughing and playing was awesome. Nothing beats watching your child experience pure joy.
Catch ya tomorrow for my Christmas recap post!

Happy Monday! I am linking up with Katie for my weekend recap!
It was hands-down, one of the most fun weekends I have had since we moved. Wilmington, NC, finally had it's first real winter temperatures here but it wasn't too cold to still have fun.
My dad and his wife came in town for an early Christmas celebration and Ryan was in heaven with his Pop Pop.

Happy Monday! I am linking up with Katie for my weekend recap!
This weekend went by exactly as I expected it would. It involved running store to store getting all of my Christmas shopping done, chasing a crazy toddler around stores while people looked at me like I was a bad parent, and then wrapping all of the presents (and thinking about wrapping my son and giving him away as a "present" too).
Just kidding about the very last part of that... maybe...
I would have taken a TON of pictures capturing our weekend experiences but every single time I pulled my phone out, Ryan wanted me to play the song "Let it Go" on my phone. So obviously there are very little pictures to show you from the weekend. Except this one:
And, this is the only one that made the cut because he was just so darn proud to find a horsey he could ride.
After that, no pictures were allowed because my phone was too busy playing "Let it Go." I guess Ryan finally jumped on the Frozen bandwagon. Confusing thing is, he has never seen the movie but he knows the song. Daycare must be playing it during music time because all I know is, he came home one day and started belting out "Leee itttt goooooo."
It's a catchy tune too, because I found myself singing "Let it Go" in my head the whole time I was in the stores chasing down a toddler that refused to get in the shopping cart and thought he could run sprints down aisles.
I had to bribe him with some random snack treats I found down an aisle in order for him to semi behave. I say semi very loosely here.
So, how was your weekend?!
XOXO,
Sherri

Happy Monday! I am linking up with Katie for my weekend recap!
This weekend was just what the doctor ordered. A lot of R&R. I started my new job last week, which is going well, but it definitely has me re-thinking my schedule a little bit.
I have to fight a lot of traffic in my morning and evening commutes, I am barely making it to daycare in time to pick Ryan up before I get fined, and then have to come home and cook a meal. It's getting harder and harder to get Ryan to bed on schedule and has me considering some changes.
What changes you might ask? Well, right now I am starting to cook (or freeze) all of my meals for the week on Sundays so that I don't have to do anything but warm it up when I get home or open the crock pot lid.
We shall see how that goes...
If that doesn't help, which I know it should, then I am back to the drawing board...
Now, to reflect on my weekend in pictures:

Happy Monday! I am linking up with Katie for my weekend recap!
Remember me? I didn't expect to be away from social media this long. My last post was on 11/18 and after that, the shishhhh hit the fan in my household. During my last post, my son had been battling a nasty cold for over a week. But, things got worse. He ended up with a double ear infection, a 102-degree fever for four days, and an extreme case of thrush from the antibiotics. On top of that, I caught a cold and it turned into laryngitis and bronchitis for me. Oh, and then my husband got it during Thanksgiving and spent the whole holiday in bed with a high fever and vomiting.
So, as you can imagine, there was no way I was able to do much of anything.
Now that we are finally on the mend, life is back in full swing and I start my new job TOMORROW. I can't tell you how stoked I am to get back into a routine. I have missed structure and adult interaction...badly.

My weekend update is coming to you a few days late because my toddler decided to be so generous and share his nasty cold with me. Both of us have been under the weather and I prescribed myself some good 'ole R&R. He has had it for over a week and yesterday we went to his doctor only to find out he also has a double ear infection.
He's been a trooper, though! This weekend, my mother and her boyfriend came to visit and he tried his very best to hang in there and have some fun. He even managed to sucker Dada into playing with him in Chick-fil-A.
Step 1: Ask Dada to come "supervise" you.
Step 2: Convince 6'3'' Dada to come join you!
I do have some other exciting news to share as well!

Happy Monday! I am linking up with Katie for my weekend recap!
This weekend, we had one day that was all sunshine and no rain. So, we took advantage of it. Good thing we did, because the rain started again yesterday and it is showing no signs of stopping today. I am now, officially, considering getting a jon boat to make it out of my yard. Who knew I was moving to an area where I would be able to fish from my house?
But, to get back on how awesome the weekend was... Where we live, we are just about 20 minutes from four different beaches. Since it was 80 degrees Saturday, we decided to go to Southport, NC, and explore that beach and check out the scenery. It did not disappoint.

Happy Monday! I am linking up with Katie for my weekend recap!
Have you ever found yourself shopping in a store, hear your jam, and start singing or semi dancing? Ryan has! Except, he took it to the next level, jumped on a rug, and rode it like a horsey. This kid...

Ryan has hit the "dance party" phase. Whenever he hears some good tunes, he always breaks out in a jig. Good thing he has his mama's dance skills. Although, I am slightly concerned he may end up like this kid when he is older:

I am coming at you a day late on my Weekend Recap, simply because I had yesterday off and I needed to veg out on my couch and catch up on my shows. My mother was in town all last week and then Russell and I flew to South Bend, IN, to cheer on Notre Dame, so I needed a bit of "me" time.
Side note: We are two weeks away from moving! Let the stressing, excitement, sadness, nerves, and frantic last minute prepping begin!
How did the game go? Notre Dame won...duh! Actually, it was a great game and we played Navy, a team with deep history and respect with Notre Dame. Don't you just love how I said "we" like I was part of the team.... #hardcorefanproblems.
Russell's dad and mom came on the trip with us so it was truly a Schwartz filled event!

I am a day late and a dollar short on this weekend recap post, but with good reason. Every single member of my household has been sick and so has our visitor! I am sure my family is drawing the attention of the health department because #wearecontagious!
If you recall, at the end of last week I was out of commission really sick. Well, yesterday, everyone else woke up with a nasty viral bug. I had to take the day off to care for my little man and my mom. Gigi came into town this weekend for a whole week, and she wasn't even exempt from the bug.
When you wake up on a Monday morning and everyone else in the house has the bug, it's a quick reality check on just how superb your week will be. Kidding... kind of...maybe not??
At least everyone woke up much better today so that we could celebrate Gigi's 50th birthday!!! I am stoked that my mom is in town for a whole week and that I get to celebrate her birthday with her. That hasn't happened since before college. THAT long ago...
While we were semi healthy this weekend, we did manage to have a little fun. So lets recap, shall we?
We took Ryan to the toy store to play with the train table. He literally stayed right there for a good 20 minutes. I think we found his birthday gift. A train table is a must!
Now let's hope that we stay healthy the rest of the week so we can enjoy a huge milestone celebration for Gigi! Oh, and so that Russell and I can enjoy our getaway trip to Notre Dame this weekend.
XOXO,
Sherri

Goofball.
Ryan is also into this thing where he loves to grab bags, put them on his shoulder, and say "bye bye." This time, it was his Halloween bucket. He put his night night and his bear (that he named "AHH") in his bucket, jumped on his tractor, and told me he was going "bye bye." Someone is already trying to leave the nest.
We also took Ryan (and Gigi) to his favorite spot... Bass Pro. Gigi wanted to see the world's largest Bass Pro and Ryan wanted to reenact a scene from Blazing Saddles. #howthewestwaswon
And no Bass Pro trip is complete without an elevator ride to the very top to view all of downtown Memphis.
And because Ryan has more energy in him than I do when I drink five cups of coffee, we decided a trip to the park was a perfect way to end the weekend. He totally dominates the slide.
And so does my husband.... Speaking of... this is what it looks like when a 30 year old, 6'3'' grown man tries to go down the slide. He may or may not have gotten stuck.
Now let's hope that we stay healthy the rest of the week so we can enjoy a huge milestone celebration for Gigi! Oh, and so that Russell and I can enjoy our getaway trip to Notre Dame this weekend.
