This weekend was filled with lots of rain, lots of sleep, a good book, and a crazy toddler. The fireworks were pretty much a wash since it rained every single day except for Sunday, but the rain made my crazy toddler extra sleepy. Ryan slept in until 8 every day (which never happens), so it was the first time in months that momma and daddy got to get some good sleep in.
Thursday
I got off work early on Thursday, so I started my long weekend off with a great workout at home before I picked Ryan up from daycare. It was nice to get a hard workout in without my toddler throwing things at me on the treadmill or trying to climb on me if I am doing planks. The uninterrupted workout alone was a success! We also got a picture back that our church took of us recently...too cute!
Then, when Ryan went down for the night, I borrowed the book The Girl on the Train by Paula Hawkins, from our local library's e-library program and started that with a nice glass of wine. That book was the best book I have read in a long time and I finished it in three nights. That too, hasn't happened in a long time. I recently found out that our library has a program where you can check out/borrow library books through your kindle. Next book on my list I am borrowing is The Husband's Secret by Liane Moriarty.
Friday
Friday night fireworks were a washout, so we took Ryan to Chipotle instead (duh) and then walked around the mall. We did manage, however, to do a quick wagon ride when we had a brief break in the rain.
While at the mall, we came across the little cars that you put a few quarters in and it does a quick "ride." We thought it would be fun for Ryan to try, but Ryan was not amused. I still crack up over his eyes in this video.
Saturday
Saturday was also a wash and after watching the movie Independence Day for the bizillionth time, Ryan was getting cabin fever so we took him to HomeGoods (because that is obviously where you take your kids, haha) to grab a few things and he could get out and about. Well, it turned out to be a bad idea, because Ryan stumbled upon a beautifully bright yellow Power Wheels car, fell instantly in love, and when it was time to part, threw the biggest meltdown of all-time.
Don't let this face fool you, he threw himself out on the floor right after this when it was time to say "bye bye" to the car.
Russell also convinced me it was a good idea to buy a $5 recorder because, according to him, he has great skills at it. He then played "Mary had a Little Lamb" the rest of the night.
Sunday
Finally, we had no rain on Sunday so we did a Costco trip and long stroller walk with Ryan and Buddy. Ryan also practiced giving Buddy kisses and his selfie skills.
I also discovered my new love, the Starbucks Iced Caramel Macchiato that you can buy in the milk section at your grocery store!
It was delicious and much cheaper than spending a fortune at Starbucks. It's the real thing....only cheaper...and at home.
Then watched the USA women's soccer finals. Such a great game! Ryan got into it too, yelling (his version) of "goaaaal" around the house, in his diaper.... because that's what a baller does.
He then decided to take his soccer goal and turn it into a chair.
And practiced group selfies.
XOXO,
Sherri
How did you spend your July 4th?
