#justaredcup | The Starbucks controversy

Thursday, November 12, 2015

I want to give a shout out to Amanda @ RunningwithSpoons for the link up.

Its #thinkingoutloud Thursday!

Folks, I have to weigh in on the Starbucks red cup controversy.  It is stupid - not Starbucks' decision, but the public outcry.  It is just a cup.  I don't care what color it is, as long as I have my hot and tasty, extremely over-priced, life-changing coffee in it.

Christmas doesn't mean a Starbucks cup should be bursting at the seams with ornaments, snowflakes, and snowmen.  A solid color red cup is just fine by me.  I don't let a cup influence my Christmas spirit.  And look, I am a Christian... and I am going to admit, I am very perplexed by some Christians issues with a solid red cup being a cut on Christianity.  The actress Candace Cameron Bure (D.J. Tanner from Full House) said it best in this Instagram post below:

There are far more important things going on in our world that should be getting attention.  Why is #justaredcup getting more attention than the massive refugee crisis, the presidential candidates, homelessness, or starvation on our own soil?  People, people, people.... stop letting this get to you.  Starbucks didn't remove Christmas from its cups, you are allowing that to happen.  Christmas is not about a cup with some jingle bells on it.  No, no, no.  My belief in Christmas goes way beyond a red cup.

If you are still burning up, Ellen has the perfect solution:

So, today, I am going to jump in my car and drive to Starbucks to get my over-priced cup of deliciousness.  And, I am going to enjoy it. I am going to hold my bright red cup and sip on it slowly and stay in my happy place, humming "I'm Dreaming of a White Christmas" in my head. (Even though I really don't want snow.)  Because let's be real...I was saved by Jesus, not a frappuccino.

XOXO,
Sherri
