Its #thinkingoutloud Thursday!
As most parents know, babies and young toddlers usually have the attention span of a gnat. Getting them to even sit still to eat is a challenge. As Ryan has gotten a bit older, I have been able to see a slight change in him and he has been able to sit for longer periods to read a book and watch a favorite show of his.
While I don't encourage a ton of screen time for Ryan (I would rather him play with toys), there are times we are at a restaurant, plane ride, car ride, or waiting room somewhere, that I desperately need entertainment for him. The below apps are some of our favorites that are on our iPad or iPhone right now.
Peekaboo Barn
Ryan loves animals and peekaboo, so combine the two and you have this app. Ryan loves touching the barn door and being surprised at which animal it shows. He has even gotten very good at saying the animal's name and mimicking the sound the animal makes. This is a tried and true favorite that he has been playing with since he was around 12 months old. It does cost $1.99, but it's totally worth it.
Wheels on the Bus
Who doesn't love that song? I go way overboard when I sing the song to Ryan and he just chuckles his little heart out. This app is interactive and has the song, you can record your own voice, and you can move the bus doors, wipers, etc. It is $1.99, which doesn't break the bank and it is an app that he will not quickly outgrow.
Moo Baa La La La
I heart Sandra Boynton and all of her books. So does Ryan. Her book Moo Baa La La La is, by far, his favorite and for $3.99, you can download the interactive version via the app. Ryan can touch the animals to hear their sounds and the book really just comes to life.
Nickelodeon
I love this app because it is free and Ryan can access TONS of the Nickelodeon shows. Did I mention it was FREE?!
PBS Kids
My love for the Nick app also rolls over to the PBS Kids app. The PBS app is FREE and has tons of shows like Daniel Tiger that Ryan can watch. There is a Disney Jr. app out there too, and while I wanted to love it because it was free, you had to purchase almost every appisode to watch. Not cool when you can watch so many more for free through PBS Kids and Nickelodeon's app.
Counting 1 2 3
While Ryan is not counting like a champ right now, he has learned to say 1, 2, 3 and I recently downloaded this app to see if it helps. He loves counting to three right now, so I hope this spikes his learning even more! (This app was also free.)
Do you have any other favorite apps that your toddler uses that is appropriate for the 2-yr age bracket? I would love to hear!
XOXO,
Sherri
