Ryan's Favorites | Books!

Wednesday, April 15, 2015

Sorry for not posting at all yesterday.  I was still getting over my nasty stomach virus and decided to take a full rest day and really focus on getting my energy and strength back.

Now that I am close to 100% again, I am back in business!

Ryan is finally getting to the age where he really enjoys his books. So much, in fact, that the first thing he wants to do when he wakes up is grab a book.  He stands in his crib, points to his book case, and happily squeals "book!"  So, he gets to read his book while I change him for the day.  He also demands to hold two in his car seat while on the ride to daycare, and we must read at least three books before bed.  (At least one of those books is read at least six times before Ryan is fully satisfied and ready to sleep)

I absolutely love it.  I am a book nerd myself and I totally believe it has helped Ryan so much in his vocabulary and growth over the last few months.  He really was not interested in books his first full year but I read them to him anyway.  Well....at least, I tried to.  It only lasted about one page before he would throw it across the room.  But persistence is key folks!  Because now, my little man LOVES books.  Now, he grabs his books and walks them over to me, climbing in my lap.  (Proud mommy moment).

We have a TON of books in his room and downstairs in the living room for him but, he definitely has his favorites.  As of now, here are Ryan's go-to books:

one | two | three | four | five

ON THE NIGHT YOU WERE BORN by Nancy Tillman: This is my favorite book.  It is so sweet and makes every child feel special.  This is the last book I read to Ryan every night, and the one book that he makes me read at least five or six times before bed.

MOO, BOO, LA LA LA! by Sandra Boynton:  Sandra Boynton's books are all great, but this one has Ryan cracking up.  He loves the page where I have to say "Quack! Says the duck."  He busts out laughing every single time.  We are really working on our animal sounds right now, so this is the perfect book.

OLD MACDONALD HAD A FARM & ITSY BITSY SPIDER by Parragon Books: Parragon Books has turned several nursery rhymes into finger puppet books.  Ryan has the Old MacDonald and Itsy Bitsy Spider one and he thinks it is so fun to grab the finger puppet animal while I read the books.  Its the little things ... :)

BROWN BEAR, BROWN BEAR, WHAT DO YOU SEE? by Bill Martin Jr/Eric Carle: This is a very recent favorite of Ryan's.  He loves turning to the back page and pointing at all of the animals.  When he gets to the picture of the white dog, he yells out "bubba!"  Every dog is his bubba :)

So there you have it! My toddler's go-to books.  I am looking to add a few more Sandra Boynton's to our collection and I have a few other ABC and counting books I am hoping to add to our rotation soon.

XOXO,
Sherri
