3 Strikes and You’re out!

Wednesday, May 1, 2013

Howdy folks!  I hope this post finds everyone well and busy getting summer plans together.  On another note though, we seriously need to talk about my golf game.

After we moved and found ourselves in Memphis, Russell and I had a brief discussion on how we knew no one here and we needed to find more fun things to do together.  As I begged Russell to pick up tennis to play with me, I got suckered in to picking up the game of golf.  That. Was. A. Bad. Idea.
You see, anyone who knows me knows that I am a Type A personality, and I have come to the conclusion that golf is NOT meant for Type A people.

1.        I don’t have the patience for it.
            2.       I expected myself to be female Tiger Woods within the 1st 5 minutes of playing.
            3.       I am so competitive that I get SOOOOO mad at the first HORRIBLE shot.  (put that together with multiple horrible shots throughout the day and I have, at that point, I become a maniac.)

Soo take all of the above and there you have it…the perfect mental picture.  But, I try, and that is the best that I can do.  (Too bad that doesn’t sink in mentally when I am on the green.)  So, in the good wifely duty, Russell really wanted to join a country club around here to play all the time.  (It’s a Memphis thing…everyone joins one and there is a club on every block.)  I looked at the opportunity as a way to have a pool at my fingertips, tennis courts to beg my husband to play on with me, a great restaurant on site, and then there is the occasional golfing with my husband even though there is the “I suck” thing.

So, we joined.  This past weekend was the first weekend as members and since the weather was gorgeous I decided to play with Russell.  I already had so much against me before the game started.  I had just had zero to little sleep the night before because I went to the Dave Matthews Band Concert and was up early, and second, I was starving and cared more about my salad that I ordered (eating it on my lap in the cart) than really taking the game seriously that day.  Nevertheless I went out there and tee’d up for the first shot.

AND I HORRIBLY SHANKED THE BALL PRACTICALLY DIRECTLY BESIDE ME TO THE RIGHT AND INTO THE PARKING LOT AREA.  Yep.  No DISTANCE.  Then I took 1 more shot at it on the first hole and DID THE EXACT SAME THING.

This little charade went on 2 more holes , in which I became more and more horrible and I finally gave up after the third hole (after I embarrassed myself in front of a kid) and stuck to drinking my diet coke and playing on Facebook while Russell finished up.

Question, how am I going to ever get better at this???  (Russell you don’t get to answer this question).  See Russ thinks I should get lessons and practice at the driving range…AIN’T NOBODY GOT TIME FOR THAT!  J

Maybe my next post next week will be about how I wake up one morning and become a PRO at golf.  .  .  NOT!

Until next time!

XOXOXO, Sherri
